Drip is an e-commerce CRM and email marketing platform. Its import and export capabilities are built around subscribers, tags, custom fields and segments. Automations and email sequences cannot be exported natively.
This guide covers all methods: subscriber import via CSV, contact export, the Drip API and Coefficient for recurring live exports to Google Sheets or Excel.
| What data can you import and export from Drip? |
| Drip supports CSV import of subscribers with tags, custom fields and email opt-in status. Export covers subscriber lists with all associated tags and custom fields as CSV. Automations, email sequences and broadcast campaigns cannot be exported as data. The Drip API provides full access to subscribers, accounts and event data. Coefficient connects Drip to Google Sheets or Excel for live, auto-refreshing subscriber exports. |
How to import data into Drip
Method 1: CSV subscriber import
The standard path for bringing a subscriber list or migrating from another email platform.
- In Drip, go to People and click Import People.
- Upload your CSV file. The first row must contain column headers.
- Map your CSV columns to Drip fields: Email (required), First Name, Last Name, tags and custom fields.
- Set the subscriber status: subscribed, unsubscribed or pending opt-in.
- Click Import. Drip processes the file and emails a confirmation when complete.
Format requirements:
- File type: CSV.
- Required field: Email. All other fields are optional.
- Tags: include a “tags” column with comma-separated tag names. Drip creates new tags automatically if they do not already exist.
- Custom fields: include the custom field name as a column header. Drip matches on exact name (case-sensitive).
- Opt-in status: importing existing confirmed subscribers requires setting the status to “subscribed.” Using “pending” triggers a confirmation email.
- What cannot be imported: automation history, email engagement data (opens, clicks) and broadcast send history cannot be imported via CSV.
Method 2: Drip API
The Drip API supports programmatic subscriber creation, tag management and event tracking. Use it for automated integrations with e-commerce platforms, continuous data syncing from other systems or migrating engagement history programmatically.
How to export data from Drip
Method 1: Subscriber export (CSV)
- Go to People in Drip.
- Apply filters or select a segment to narrow the subscribers you want to export.
- Click Export (or look for the download icon). Drip exports the subscriber list with all tags and custom fields.
- Drip emails you a download link when the export is ready. Download within the link’s expiry window.
What the export includes:
- Included: email address, first name, last name, all tags, all custom field values, subscriber status, opt-in date.
- Not included: email engagement history (opens, clicks, bounces), automation enrollment history.
To export engagement data, use the Drip API to query subscriber event history.
Method 2: Coefficient for live, scheduled exports

The native export is a one-time CSV download. For marketing teams that need fresh subscriber counts, tag distributions or segment sizes in a spreadsheet regularly — weekly campaign prep, monthly list health checks — Coefficient removes the manual export cycle.
Coefficient connects Drip directly to Google Sheets or Excel. Subscriber data refreshes automatically on the schedule you set.
What you can do with the Coefficient Drip connector:
- Import subscriber records with tags, custom fields and status with field-level selection and segment filters.
- Set auto-refresh so list health metrics are always current for campaign planning.
- Turn live Drip data into a shareable web dashboard. Coefficient AI dashboards build it from your live data in plain English.
How to connect Drip to a spreadsheet with Coefficient:
- Install Coefficient from the Google Workspace Marketplace or Microsoft AppSource.

- Open Coefficient from the Extensions menu in Google Sheets, or the add-in menu in Excel.
- Click Import From and select Drip. When prompted, enter your Drip API key to complete the connection.

- Select the data type (subscribers, segments, etc.), choose fields and apply filters.
- Set a Scheduled Run to refresh data automatically.

Stop exporting data manually. Sync data from your business systems into Google Sheets or Excel with Coefficient and set it on a refresh schedule.

Method 3: Drip API for programmatic export
The Drip API provides access to subscriber data, tags, custom fields, event history and account information in JSON format. Use it to build automated export pipelines, sync Drip data with a CRM or data warehouse, or access engagement history not available in native CSV export.

FAQ
Can you export Drip data to Google Sheets automatically?
Yes, with Coefficient. Connect Drip, select the subscriber data you need and set a refresh schedule. Your list data updates in Google Sheets or Excel automatically.
What data fields can be exported from Drip?
Native CSV export includes email address, first and last name, all tags, all custom field values, subscriber status and opt-in date. Email engagement history (opens, clicks, bounces) is not included in the CSV and requires the API.
Can you import contacts from HubSpot to Drip?
Yes, via CSV. Export your HubSpot contacts as CSV, map the column headers to match Drip’s required field names (Email, First Name, Last Name and any custom fields) and import via Drip’s subscriber importer.
Can you export Drip automations and email sequences?
No. Drip does not support native export of automation workflows or email sequences. These must be rebuilt manually if migrating to another platform. Subscriber data and tags can be exported, but the marketing logic itself cannot.
What is the best way to back up Drip data?
Export your full subscriber list via People > Export regularly. For a more complete backup including engagement history, use the Drip API to export subscriber event data. Store both the CSV subscriber export and the API event data in secure storage for a full backup.
